MANILA — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. committed to expanding government support for renewable energy and clean technology initiatives, as he showcased what he described as a landmark model for the country’s energy transition.

“It is an initiative that is a monumental one as it lights up homes and the path forward to the country’s energy transition,” the President said during his visit to the NING*NING 6.55-Megawatt Peak Solar Rooftop Power Facility in Pasinaya Homes, Naic, Cavite. The development is touted as the world’s first grid-connected, utility-scale solar rooftop project located within a socialized housing community.

The NING*NING Project equips 1,986 households with rooftop solar panels, enabling the community to collectively generate clean electricity. Marcos emphasized that beyond providing solar power, the system also yields revenue to sustain key community services such as roof repairs, street lighting, waste management, shared solar facilities, and resident training programs.

“In other words, the energy that we produced here will power a better life for the people who live in this community, but even beyond this community,” he said. “Because although there are advantages, there are benefits to those living in this community, there is also the benefit to the grid because you are providing additional power, which we all know is something that we need.”

Marcos highlighted the project’s use of existing rooftops, noting that no farmland or livelihoods were displaced and no additional land was consumed. He said the facility is expected to reduce more than 6,233 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually — equivalent to removing nearly 1,000 vehicles from the road.

The President also recognized the project’s global acclaim, citing its Gold award for ESG Integration Excellence and Silver award for Sustainable Renewable Energy Initiative of the Year at the Asian Power Awards 2025.

He congratulated Solaris Inc., the solar arm of the Joy-Nostalg Group, along with its development arm Raemulan Lands Inc. and other partners, for demonstrating Filipino innovation at an international level.

“I believe that this community in Naic is just the beginning… Imagine what we can do if we replicate this sort of effort in neighboring communities and, later on, the rest of the country,” Marcos said.

He underscored the need for closer cooperation among the government, private sector, and local communities to scale up renewable energy initiatives nationwide, especially as the Philippines confronts intensifying climate challenges.

“Kailangan natin ng tulong ng bawat komunidad, bawat pamilya, bawat Pilipino,” he said.

Marcos assured that the administration will continue improving systems and processes to encourage and accelerate the rollout of more renewable energy projects.

“Indeed, our collaboration demonstrates what can be achieved when the government, the private sector, and communities work together to create sustainable solutions,” he said, concluding with: “Muli, sama-sama po tayong magsikap upang makamit ang isang mas maganda at maliwanag na kinabukasang mamanahin at ipagmamalaki ng ating mga anak.”
