MANILA — The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong, in coordination with MWO-HK and OWWA-HK, said it has not received any confirmed reports of Filipinos killed or injured in the Fire Alarm Level 5 at a residential complex in Tai Po, New Territories, Hong Kong.
Unverified information suggesting that some Filipino foreign domestic workers may be trapped inside the buildings has been relayed to the authorities to assist in rescue and response efforts.
“Due to the scale and intensity of the calamity, it will take some time before these reports are confirmed and the extent of the damage and number and nationality of the victims are fully determined,” the Consulate General said, noting that efforts by the Hong Kong Fire Services Department to contain the fire are ongoing.
The Consulate General continues to coordinate with the Hong Kong Police Force Liaison Bureau and is ready to assist any Filipino nationals affected or injured in the incident. It also expressed sympathy for the victims and their families, joining the people of Hong Kong in praying for the recovery of the injured and for the repose of those who perished.
