MANILA — The Philippine Coast Guard’s (PCG) flagship multi-role response vessel, BRP Teresa Magbanua (MRRV-9701), continues its deployment near the China Coast Guard (CCG) vessel 4305, approximately 42.77 nautical miles southeast of Bajo De Masinloc and 103.15 nautical miles southwest of Capones Island, Zambales.
Under orders from PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan and in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s policy, the vessel has been conducting radio challenges to CCG 4305, asserting that its presence constitutes an illegal incursion. The Philippine government cites violations of the 2016 Arbitral Award, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and the Philippine Maritime Zones Act.
The PCG emphasized that the operation is part of a rules-based, professional, and restrained maritime patrol designed to uphold the Philippines’ sovereign rights within its exclusive economic zone. The sustained presence of BRP Teresa Magbanua also provides assurance to Filipino fishermen, allowing them to fish safely without fear of harassment or interference.
“These radio challenges reaffirm our unwavering commitment to defending our national sovereignty while promoting peace and stability in the West Philippine Sea,” the Coast Guard said.
The deployment underscores Manila’s firm stance against excessive maritime claims, ensuring compliance with international law while avoiding escalation.
