MANILA — The Producer Price Index (PPI) for the manufacturing sector recorded a slower annual increase of 0.3 percent in October 2025, down from 0.8 percent in September 2025, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority data.
In contrast, October 2024 saw an annual decrease of 0.4 percent.
The manufacture of computer, electronic, and optical products was the main driver behind the deceleration, declining 1.0 percent year-on-year, compared with a 0.6-percent increase in September. This industry alone accounted for 56 percent of the slower annual growth in manufacturing PPI. Other contributors to the slowdown included the manufacture of food products (0.4 percent in October from 0.7 percent in September) and basic metals (1.4 percent from 2.2 percent).
Despite the overall slowdown, certain industries supported positive growth. The manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products, transport equipment, and basic metals were the top contributors to the overall annual increase in PPI for manufactured goods.
Within food manufacturing, the manufacture of vegetable and animal oils and fats led the slowdown, posting a year-on-year growth of 12.1 percent in October, down from 14.1 percent in September. Meanwhile, sectors such as processing and preserving of meat and manufacture of dairy products recorded faster annual increases.
Month-on-month growth accelerates
On a month-on-month basis, the PPI for manufacturing rose 0.4 percent in October 2025, faster than the 0.1 percent increase in September. The manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products was the largest contributor, rising 1.0 percent from a 1.9-percent decline in September. The manufacture of transport equipment (0.8 percent) and computer, electronic, and optical products (0.9 percent) also contributed significantly, collectively accounting for 91.5 percent of the monthly acceleration.
For food manufacturing, the PPI posted a slightly faster month-on-month increase of 0.04 percent, up from 0.003 percent in September. The processing and preserving of fish, crustaceans, and mollusks drove the improvement, rising 1.1 percent during the month and contributing 68.1 percent to the monthly growth in the food sector.
