MANILA– The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) against a father after a video went viral showing his minor child driving a vehicle in the rain, with the father sitting in the back seat.
The viral clip prompted concerns over public safety, as the incident posed risks to other motorists. The LTO cited possible violations of Reckless Driving and Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao instructed OIC Regional Director Geronimo C. Santos of LTO Regional Office #2 in Tuguegarao City to suspend the father’s driver’s license for 90 days.
Under the SCO, the father is also required to submit a written explanation within three (3) days as to why his license should not be suspended or revoked. Failure to respond will be considered a waiver of his right to be heard.
Asec. Lacanilao emphasized that allowing a minor to drive is extremely dangerous and could endanger the child and other road users.
