Bulakan, Bulacan — Around 200 families in Sitio Capulid, Barangay San Francisco are appealing to the Department of Energy, National Electrification Administration (NEA), and the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) for urgent replacement of temporary electric posts they built at their own expense.

The residents said the community has been awaiting the installation of 17 permanent Meralco posts for nearly two years, which remain unfulfilled.

Daily flooding during high tide has weakened the foundations of the temporary posts, causing some to collapse and putting residents’ lives at risk. The temporary lines are currently connected to the nearest Meralco post, about 500 meters away, it said.

“We are asking the authorities to act immediately. The temporary posts are unsafe, and our families are living in constant danger,” the families said in a report to Republika News.

The residents are also urging the local government and Hiyas Water District to extend the waterline system to Sitio Capulid. Currently, residents must purchase potable water from a source one kilometer away from their homes, making access both costly and inconvenient.

The community’s plea highlights the urgent need for safe and reliable electricity and water services to ensure the health and safety of its residents.
