QUEZON CITY — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has ordered a 90-day preventive suspension of a woman’s driver’s license after a viral video showed her allegedly drinking from a wine glass while driving a Mazda MX-5.

The LTO also issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) against the driver and the vehicle’s registered owner, requiring them to submit a verified or sworn explanation along with the vehicle’s original documents. The SCO seeks justification on why they should not face administrative penalties for Reckless Driving and Driving While Under the Influence of Liquor or Narcotic Drugs, as provided under the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.

The driver is further required to explain why her license should not be revoked for being deemed an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle under existing transportation laws and regulations.

The LTO has scheduled a hearing on the case at its Intelligence and Investigation Division, LTO Central Office in East Avenue, Quezon City, on December 12, 2025.

LTO chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao also directed the IID to place the Mazda MX-5 on ALARM status, preventing any transactions involving the vehicle.

He warned that failure to attend the hearing or submit the required explanation will be considered a waiver of the right to be heard, and the agency-held evidence will serve as the basis for the case.
