MANILA — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested a 50-year-old Chinese national at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 for violating Philippine immigration laws and for alleged involvement in illegal activities.

The suspect, identified as Shi Chaoqun, was apprehended by BI intelligence operatives on December 5 after attempting to leave the country. Verification showed that Shi engaged in business activities beyond his petitioning company, violating immigration conditions.

Information from the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Food and Agrarian Reform linked Shi and other foreign nationals to alleged smuggling operations.

After medical examination and booking, Shi was transferred to the BI warden’s facility in Taguig. He faces deportation and blacklisting if found guilty.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the arrest underscores the agency’s commitment to working with lawmakers and law enforcement to hold foreign nationals accountable.
