MANILA — Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla on Thursday assured the public that contractor Sarah Discaya faces no danger following her voluntary surrender, emphasizing that authorities remain focused on public safety and proper legal procedures.

Sec. Remulla said the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and the Philippine National Police (PNP) are fully coordinated, and that Discaya has never been considered armed or dangerous. He noted that, had she been formally listed as wanted, her arrest would have proceeded under normal legal channels.

“We are working very closely… Coordinated naman ang NBI at PNP sa ginagawa namin. We don’t believe there is a risk, mabuti nga na nag-surrender na lang siya kaysa hinanap pa,” Remulla told reporters.

The Secretary said Discaya’s decision reflects accountability and may be viewed favorably by the courts. “It showed good faith on her part. Pero syempre ang batas ang masusunod dito,” he added.

On speculation that her surrender is part of a legal strategy, Remulla stressed that the case will ultimately be decided in court. “Sila, may pera sila pambayad ng abogado. So titignan natin ang paligsahan dito sa korte,” he said.

He also encouraged other individuals with pending cases to cooperate with authorities, noting that voluntary surrender is preferable to evasion and demonstrates respect for the law.
