MANILA — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. urged 50 newly promoted star-ranked officers of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to strengthen their leadership and uphold public trust, emphasizing that higher rank comes with greater responsibility.
Speaking at the oath-taking ceremony at Malacañang Palace, the President said promotions are not just recognition of past service but a call to meet higher standards of accountability and performance.
“As you climb up a rank, you must realize this is not merely a recognition of past performance, but rather, a clearer and higher expectation of how you must lead from this point forward,” he said, stressing that leadership is measured by judgment, restraint, and consistency in upholding the law.
President Marcos encouraged the generals to continue improving personally, professionally, and institutionally, warning against complacency. He highlighted the police’s vital role in maintaining public safety amid social divides, political noise, community tensions, and evolving digital and technological threats.
The Chief Executive also reaffirmed the administration’s support for the PNP, citing updates to base pay, a PhP350 daily subsistence allowance, and programs for the welfare of police families.
With the holiday season approaching, the President called for heightened vigilance and a visible police presence in public areas and transport hubs to ensure safe and peaceful celebrations.
“Ensure the safety of every citizen so that we can all experience the joy of Christmas with peace, unity, and genuine happiness,” he said.
Of the 50 newly promoted officers, six are Police Major Generals and 44 are Police Brigadier Generals.
