MANILA — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has warned the public to remain vigilant against online scams as holiday shopping activity increases.
In an advisory, the NBI said fraudsters are taking advantage of the season through fake online stores, phishing messages, and fraudulent payment links. The agency urged consumers to verify sellers, avoid suspicious links, and never share personal, banking, or one-time password details.
The NBI cautioned that offers that appear “too good to be true” are likely scams.
The bureau also advised victims of online scams to immediately report incidents to the NBI and to keep screenshots, messages, receipts, and transaction records as evidence.
The advisory forms part of the NBI’s efforts to prevent cyber-related crimes during the holiday season.
