MANILA — Several sections of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) will be temporarily closed from December 28 to January 5 as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) carries out rehabilitation works that began on Christmas Eve.
The DPWH said the closures are due to ongoing concrete reblocking and asphalt overlay activities on both the northbound and southbound lanes of EDSA. Motorists were advised to take alternative routes during the construction period.
For southbound traffic, concrete reblocking is scheduled in multiple areas in Pasay City, including sections near P. Celle Street, Park Avenue, Soleum Gas Station, FB Harrison, Taft Avenue, Cabrera Street, San Roque, and select portions near San Lorenzo Village and the Ayala underpass. Some works will affect third lanes and outer lanes, while certain areas near the Ayala underpass will undergo reblocking without full road closures.
Northbound concrete reblocking will be conducted in areas near Taft Avenue Extension, Roxas Boulevard Service Road, FB Harrison, P. Celle Street, Aurora Boulevard, E. Rodriguez Street, Buendia Avenue Extension, Kalayaan Avenue, Orense Street, and select portions near the LRT Taft Avenue Station. Some sections will follow a staggered schedule from December 29 to January 5, affecting inner and outer lanes on specific dates.
In addition to concrete reblocking, the DPWH will simultaneously conduct asphalt overlay works along EDSA, with a separate schedule for northbound and southbound lanes.
For northbound lanes, asphalt works will run from December 28 to January 5 from Tramo Bus Station to E. Rodriguez, from December 29 to January 5 from E. Rodriguez to Kalayaan Avenue, and from December 31 to January 5 from Roxas Boulevard to FB Harrison. Additional works are scheduled from January 1 to January 5 in selected inner lanes, and from January 2 to January 5 from the Ayala underpass to Urdaneta Subdivision. All sections will cover all lanes except the bus lane unless otherwise specified.
For southbound lanes, asphalt overlay will take place from December 30 to January 5 from Loring Street to Roxas Boulevard, from January 1 to January 5 in selected inner lanes near the Ayala underpass and Tramo Bus Station, and from January 3 to January 5 from Palm Drive to the Ayala underpass, excluding the bus lane.
Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said the rehabilitation works will be conducted around the clock during the holiday period.
The project started at 11 p.m. on December 24 and is expected to continue until 4 a.m. on January 5, 2026.
According to Dizon, the P6-billion EDSA rehabilitation project is expected to take about eight months to complete and aims to replace worn-out pavement, improve drainage, and make the major thoroughfare more pedestrian-friendly, particularly for commuters.
