
MANILA — Two independent directors were sworn in as private sector representatives to the governing board of the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) in ceremonies held at the PDIC office in Makati City on December 19, 2025.
Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor and PDIC Chairperson Eli M. Remolona Jr. administered the oath of office of Directors Justice Lady P. Soriano and Imelda C. Tiongson.
The PDIC said Directors Soriano and Tiongson bring experience in investment banking and financial management, and in governance, risk management, and financial technology, respectively, which are expected to further strengthen the agency in safeguarding depositors’ interests and promoting financial stability.
As independent directors, Soriano and Tiongson are expected to help ensure impartiality in policies governing deposit insurance and promote the integrity and soundness of the country’s deposit insurance system.
Soriano is the Chief Finance Officer of Synergy Grid and Development Philippines Inc., overseeing financial management, planning, and regulatory reporting. She previously worked as a consultant for Calaca High Power Corp., served as Assistant Vice President of the Development Bank of the Philippines, and was former Manager of the PDIC Financial Assistance Management Center from 1996 to 2006. She holds an Economics degree from Ateneo de Manila University and a master’s degree in Finance from De La Salle University.
Tiongson’s career spans more than three decades in banking and finance, audit and risk management, corporate governance, and information technology. She is Vice Chairperson and Trustee of the Institute of Corporate Directors, a Trustee of Fintech Alliance PH and Womenbiz PH, and Chairman of the Governance Committee of the Management Association of the Philippines. She is also President and consultant of OPAL SPV and serves as a lecturer in various institutions.
Tiongson previously held senior executive posts at the Philippine National Bank and the National Australia Bank, and was involved in drafting business laws including the Financial Institutions Strategic Transfer Corporation, the Financial Rehabilitation and Insolvency Act, and the Revised Corporation Code. She holds an Accountancy degree from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia and completed Accounting for Bankers at the National Australia Bank.
Soriano and Tiongson complete the four-member private sector representation on the PDIC Board, joining Directors John Mark S. Frondoso and Luis Rey I. Velasco.
