MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) said that more than 56,000 personnel have been deployed nationwide to ensure public safety during New Year’s Eve celebrations.

A total of 56,785 officers are assigned across the country, including 33,020 regular police officers, 4,968 augmentation units from specialized divisions, and 18,797 members of community advocacy groups.

The PNP said teams are stationed in high-traffic areas such as transport terminals, commercial centers, coastal areas, and residential neighborhoods. Police Assistance Desks have also been activated nationwide to provide immediate emergency response and traveler assistance.

As of December 28, authorities have confiscated 79,953 pieces of illegal firecrackers, valued at about P1,224,909.

To offer safer alternatives, local government units have established 765 firecracker zones, monitored by 1,655 personnel, and 741 Community Fireworks Display Areas, staffed by 1,992 personnel.

For motorists, the PNP increased checkpoints and patrols to maintain road safety during the holiday travel surge. Over 11,000 personnel—including nearly 9,000 police officers and augmentation units—have been stationed at motorist assistance hubs to guide and assist travelers.
