MANILA — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) unveiled the names of tropical cyclones expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in 2026.

The 2026 regular names are:

  • Ada
  • Basyang
  • Caloy
  • Domeng
  • Ester
  • Francisco
  • Gardo
  • Henry
  • Inday
  • Josie
  • Kiyapo
  • Luis
  • Maymay
  • Neneng
  • Obet
  • Pilandok
  • Queenie
  • Rosal
  • Samuel
  • Tomas
  • Umberto
  • Venus
  • Waldo
  • Yayang
  • Zeny

Pagasa said each set of regular names will have a corresponding set of auxiliary names in case the number of tropical cyclones in a season exceeds 25.

The 2026 auxiliary names are: Agila, Bagwis, Chito, Diego, Elena, Felino, Gunding, Harriet, Indang, Jessa.

The agency noted that two to eight tropical cyclones are expected to enter the PAR during the first half of 2026.

Pagasa also highlighted the country’s vulnerability to typhoons, saying the Philippines sees more tropical cyclones than any other part of the globe. On average, 20 tropical cyclones develop each year in the region, with about eight or nine making landfall in the country.

The peak of the typhoon season remains from July to October, when nearly 70 percent of all typhoons form.
