MANILA — Several luxury vehicles allegedly owned by former House appropriations committee chair and resigned Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co were seized by authorities at a Taguig City condominium on Thursday, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said.

The operation stemmed from a search warrant for nine vehicles, of which eight were found in the condominium’s parking lot. Authorities also discovered an additional seven vehicles not covered by the warrant, CIDG National Capital Region Chief Col. John Guiagui told DZBB.

“May alarma ito. May mga nakalista na mga initial violations like yung mga hindi nakapagrehistro. Other than that, may mga nakita pa tayo dito na mga sasakyan na walang records. So, kwestyonable ito,” (These have been put under alarms. Some have had initial violations like not being registered. Other than that, we saw some vehicles without records. So, these are questionable.) Guiagui explained.

He said the operation was conducted jointly by the CIDG, the Highway Patrol Group (HPG), and the Bureau of Customs.

Guiagui noted that the recovered vehicles included a Rolls Royce, a Toyota Sequoia, a Cadillac Escalade, and a Lexus. He added that the vehicles were registered under Sunwest Incorporated — a construction firm linked to Co — as well as Co’s spouse and several hotel companies.

“Mag-aapply kami doon sa warrant to disclose yung information regarding sa mga ownership. Alam naman natin sa condominium, pagka parking lot mo yan, may katumbas yan,” Guiagui said.

The eight vehicles covered by the search warrant will be turned over to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), while the vehicles not included in the warrant will be handed over to the HPG.

Attempts to reach Co’s legal counsel, Ruy Rondain, for comment were not immediately successful.

Co is wanted for graft and malversation in connection with an allegedly anomalous ₱289.5-million flood control project in Oriental Mindoro. His last known location was in Portugal, according to Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
