MANILA — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) conducted a major enforcement operation in Taguig City on January 8, resulting in the seizure of eight high-value vehicles worth an estimated ₱143 million, the agency said.

The operation, carried out at a multi-level parking facility, targeted multiple companies for possible violations of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA). It was conducted following actionable intelligence provided by the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) and sustained inter-agency coordination.

“This early-year enforcement action demonstrates the Bureau of Customs’ firm dedication to its mandate and its active role in supporting national efforts to address serious irregularities, including those linked to flood control projects,” said BOC Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno.

The operation involved a composite team from the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service–Manila International Container Port, Enforcement and Security Service, and a designated customs examiner, with support from the ICI, Philippine Coast Guard, Land Transportation Office, Philippine National Police, Highway Patrol Group, Taguig City Police, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, and barangay officials.

Prior to the search, warrants were presented to counsels representing the building and property management, while the implementing team documented the entire process with body-worn cameras and recording devices.

The eight luxury vehicles were inventoried across two parking levels, then transferred to the ICI Office in Bonifacio Global City for temporary safekeeping under the watch of PCG personnel.

Nepomuceno also acknowledged the contribution of partner agencies, particularly the ICI. “We acknowledge the valuable coordination and support provided by the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, which helped ensure the orderly conduct of the operation and the secure handling of the seized vehicles,” he said.

The commissioner added, “We will continue to pursue coordinated actions against individuals, including those linked to the flood control scandal, to ensure accountability and protect the interests of the Filipino people.”
