MANILA — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) – Port of Davao, in coordination with the Philippine National Police in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PNP-BARMM), recovered 2,483 master cases of illicit cigarettes with an estimated value of P106,232,672 in Sitio Lanzones, Barangay Gumagadong Calawag, Parang, Maguindanao del Norte on January 6–7, 2026.
Authorities launched the operation after receiving information about the suspected storage of illicit cigarettes in a local warehouse. While no contraband was initially found inside the facility, officials noticed disturbed and excavated soil nearby, which led to the discovery that the cigarettes had been buried to avoid detection.
The seized items were turned over to the BOC for the issuance of a Warrant of Seizure and Detention for violations of Sections 117, 400, and 113 of Republic Act No. 10863, also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
“This operation shows what we can accomplish when government agencies work hand in hand,” said BOC Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno. “For me, it’s not just about seizing contraband—it’s about sending a clear message that illegal trade has no place in our communities. I’m proud of our officers and our partners in the PNP-BARMM for their commitment to protecting the people and the country’s revenue.”
The operation is part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to intensify inter-agency enforcement against illicit trade, protecting government revenue and public welfare. The BOC under Commissioner Nepomuceno reiterated its commitment to strengthening border protection and curbing illegal trade nationwide.
