MANILA — Broadway star Lea Salonga revealed that she has been separated “for a while” from her businessman husband, Robert Chien.

Salonga, who is part of the star-studded cast of the return of Les Miserables in the Philippines, admitted the news during an interview with News5’s MJ Marfori.

The actress spoke about her son, actor Nic, who has been receiving strong support during his transition.

“He [Nic] has so much support… We’re both super busy but, thankfully, the dad and dad’s partner are the ones kind of ‘Pag may sipon ka, it’s here, let’s send you food. Let’s make sure that you’re well,” Salonga said, referring to the support she and Chien provide for their only child.

She then confirmed her split from her American husband of Chinese-Japanese descent.

“Yes… So, yes, it’s not a secret. I am… yeah, we’ve been separated for a while. And now he’s happy and I am happy that he’s happy,” she said.

Lea and Robert were married in California in January 2007.

Salonga is currently performing in Les Miserables: World Tour Spectacular at The Theatre in Solaire, Parañaque. The staging also features Filipino talents Rachelle Ann Go, Emily Bautista, and Red Concepcion.
