MANILA – Malacañang on Tuesday said it is premature to comment on proposals for a new political alliance similar to the UniTeam coalition that supported President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in the 2022 elections.
The statement came after former senator Antonio Trillanes IV suggested that Marcos loyalists form a coalition with the so-called “Kakampinks,” supporters of former Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo, to challenge the Dutertes in 2028.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the proposal has not been brought to the President’s attention.
“Wala pa pong napag-uusapan patungkol po diyan. Hindi pa po nababanggit sa Pangulo ito,” she said. (“There has been no discussion on that, and it has not been mentioned to the President.”)
When asked whether the Palace is open to working with opposition members or former election contenders, Castro declined to comment, saying it is too early to give any position.
“Wala po tayong masasabi sa ngayon. Maybe it’s too early to comment on that,” she added.
Robredo served as the country’s 14th Vice President from 2016 to 2022 under the Duterte administration and ran for president in 2022, losing to Marcos.
