MANILA – The Department of Justice (DOJ) said excise tax complaints against contractor couple Sara and Curlee Discaya have been dismissed following prosecutors’ evaluation.

Prosecutor General Richard Anthony Fadullon told reporters that the complaints, filed by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in October 2025, involved the alleged failure of the couple to pay excise taxes on nine luxury vehicles registered under their names. He said the cases were dismissed due to “valid defenses raised.”

DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez clarified that two other tax evasion cases against the Discayas have not yet been filed before the Court of Tax Appeals.

On January 27, Martinez said prosecutors resolved five tax cases against the couple, three of which were dismissed.

The remaining two cases, which are set to be filed before the appellate tax court, involve alleged violations of Section 254 of the National Internal Revenue Code, concerning willful attempts to evade or defeat taxes, and Section 255, covering willful failure to supply correct and accurate information.
