MANILA – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is reportedly concerned about the effect of the impeachment complaints filed against him on the country’s economy, rather than on his personal position, Malacañang said.
At a press briefing, Presidential Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro emphasized that the filing of the complaints could affect “not just the president but the entire country and the economy.”
She added, “The President is bothered by the complaint not for himself because he knows he did not commit any impeachable offense. However, he is worried about its impact on the economy.”
The remarks came after the House Committee on Justice determined that two impeachment complaints against Marcos were sufficient in form. The vote for the first complaint recorded 46 yes votes, one no vote, and one abstention, while the second complaint received 35 yes votes, nine no votes, and one abstention.
A complaint deemed sufficient in form must be based on personal knowledge and/or authentic documents. Castro noted that the determination of form does not affect the substance of the complaints and that the President continues to carry out his duties without disruption.
