SUBIC, ZAMBALES – The Department of Agriculture – National Corn Program (DA-NCP) held its 2027 Strategic Planning Workshop from January 26 to 30, 2026, aiming to strengthen program implementation, address key challenges, and formulate a comprehensive action and budget plan for the coming year.
The workshop brought together corn program focal persons from all regions, as well as representatives from private companies and livestock units, who participated in discussions to ensure sector-wide alignment.
The DA-NCP emphasized a farmer-responsive approach, focusing on:
- Strengthening corn clusters;
- Increasing overall production and yield per hectare;
- Establishing and maximizing soil laboratories to test farmers’ soil samples and ensure the use of appropriate fertilizers; and
- Enhancing corn processing facilities to add value and improve market opportunities for farmers.
The agency is also exploring a proposed investment in modern corn post-harvest facilities to address inefficiencies, improve grain quality, and boost productivity and income for farmers, subject to further assessment, prioritization, and approval.
