MANILA – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. welcomed the dismissal of impeachment complaints filed against him, but remained tight-lipped on the ongoing case involving Vice President Sara Duterte.

The House of Representatives’ justice committee earlier ruled that the impeachment complaint against Marcos was insufficient in substance, effectively junking the case.

Speaking at the opening of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila College of Allied Health Sciences building, Marcos said the House was simply performing its constitutional role.

“I’m glad that, of course — I’m glad that the impeachment complaints against me have been — are finished,” Marcos said. “I’m happy it’s done and we can get on with our work, you know, because these things are distractions from the things that we were doing.”

Marcos said he was not concerned about the complaint against him, adding that he believed it lacked merit.

“Although I wasn’t very worried because I saw the impeachment complaint and I knew that I would be all right in terms of the impeachment,” he said. “There were no real grounds for the impeachment. It was a political move, as usual.”

While Marcos emerged unscathed, the House justice committee is set to proceed with the impeachment case against Duterte.

Asked to comment on his former running mate’s impeachment case, the president declined, saying it was the House’s responsibility.

“I’m sure they will handle it properly,” he said. “So let them do their jobs.”
