MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday reiterated its commitment to bring fugitive businessman Atong Ang to justice, while lauding the Cambodian government for verifying information on his movements.
“While his vast resources continue to pose a challenge in pursuing him, the PNP is focused and committed to bring him to justice,” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement.
Nartatez said the police are continuously coordinating with other government agencies to verify information received daily regarding Ang’s possible hiding place.
“We in the PNP fully appreciate the cooperation and assistance of the government of Cambodia. This only proves the strong alliance between the two countries in law enforcement operations and in the pursuit of justice,” he said.
The PNP chief added that coordination with other countries has been strengthened to restrict Ang’s movements and eventually lead to his arrest.
Arrest warrants have been issued against Ang and several others over charges of kidnapping with homicide, as well as kidnapping and serious illegal detention, in connection with the investigation into the case of the missing sabungeros, or cockfighting enthusiasts.
Authorities have offered a PHP10-million reward for information that could lead to Ang’s capture. (PNA)
