MANILA — The House of Representatives dismissed the two impeachment complaints filed this year against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
The decision came after the majority bloc overwhelmingly voted to adopt Committee on Justice’s Committee Report No.111, which recommended the dismissal of the complaints for insufficiency in substance. The nominal vote was 284-8-4 (yes-no-abstain), announced by presiding officer Deputy Speaker Janette Garin of Iloilo’s 1st district.
“House Resolution (HR) No.746, as well as the findings, conclusions, and recommendations contained in Committee Report No.111 are hereby adopted. The impeachment complaints filed against the President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. are hereby dismissed,” Garin said.
The impeachment proceedings against Marcos were initiated on January 26. On February 4, the Justice Committee, chaired by Batangas 2nd district Rep. Gerville “Jinky Bitrics” Luistro, had already deemed the complaints insufficient in substance after a series of public hearings.
The vote, with 284 affirmative responses, reflects the pro-Marcos majority bloc’s strength in the 300-plus member House. Analysts note the margin could be seen as a demonstration that the bloc could meet the one-third plenary requirement to directly transmit an impeachment complaint to the Senate without committee deliberations.
The House’s dismissal of Marcos’ complaints comes as it prepares to handle similar proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte. As of Tuesday, three verified and endorsed impeachment complaints against Duterte have been transmitted to the office of House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III.
