MANILA — Actress Nadine Lustre said she believes current Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo is the best choice for the presidency in the 2028 elections.

“For me, she is really the best candidate for the presidency,” Lustre said of Robredo.
“I supported her way, way back when she ran the first time. So definitely I’ll support her,” added the 32-year-old showbiz personality, referring to the 2022 national elections when Robredo ran for president. Robredo finished second behind eventual winner, President Marcos, with her “Kakampink” movement helping drive her campaign.

Robredo, a former vice president, ran for mayor of Naga City in 2025, a position previously held multiple times by her late husband, Jesse Robredo. She has not yet announced her political plans for the 2028 elections.

Lustre said she would respect Robredo’s decision regarding a possible run, but reaffirmed her support.
“It’s up to her decision, you know, and obviously we respect that. Sometimes the best presidents are those who don’t want to run, so we’ll see. Let’s cross the bridge na lang when we get there because right now it’s really hard to say,” she said. Lustre starred in the 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival entry Call Me Mother.

On the same day, Lustre joined ML Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima, Christophe Bariou, and animal welfare groups including PETA, Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), Animal Kingdom Foundation, CARA Welfare Philippines, and Biyaya Animal Care in filing several measures in the House of Representatives:

  • House Bill No. 7696 – Strengthening the enforcement and oversight of animal welfare laws by establishing Animal Welfare Desks in police stations and creating an Animal Welfare Ombudsman Unit for oversight.
  • House Bill No. 7697 – Establishing a national plant-based health advocacy program, the “Gulay para sa Kalusugan at Kalikasan Program.”
  • House Resolution No. 748 – Directing the Committee on Natural Resources to conduct an inquiry on the country’s environmental challenges and recommend policies to prevent negative ecological impacts.
