MANILA — Actress Bea Alonzo has withdrawn the cyber libel case she filed against veteran entertainment journalist Cristy Fermin following a public apology from Fermin.
The case, which also involved Fermin’s co-hosts Rommel Villamor and Wendell Alvarez, was resolved after nearly two years of court proceedings. Fermin and her colleagues expressed gratitude to Alonzo and her legal team for ending the case amicably.
“Nais po naming magpasalamat kay Bea Alonzo, sa kanyang mga pamilya at sa kanyang mga abogado… Bea Alonzo, salamat sa pag-unawa mo sa aming hanay,” Fermin said on their program Showbiz Now Na, emphasizing that they never intended to harm the actress.
Alonzo’s legal team, Garcia Elauria Ruanto & Associated (GERA), confirmed that the actress chose to resolve the matter through mediation, calling her decision a reflection of “forgiveness, emotional maturity, personal growth, and courage.”
The cyber libel complaint, filed in May 2024, stemmed from allegedly false and damaging information discussed on Fermin and Ogie Diaz’s online shows. In July 2025, the Quezon City Regional Trial Court issued arrest warrants for Fermin, Villamor, and Alvarez, who later posted bail of ₱48,000 each.
GERA noted that Alonzo’s decision to forgive was “not out of weakness but out of strength… to free herself from a cycle of harm and hostility that no longer serves her life or her purpose.”
