MANILA — The Manila local government has released a traffic advisory for this year’s Chinese New Year festivities, which will be observed on February 17, 2026.

According to the city, the following road sections will be closed from February 16 to 17:

  • Feb. 16, 3:00 a.m. – Binondo-Intramuros Bridge
  • Feb. 16, 7:00 p.m. – Jones Bridge (southbound)
  • Feb. 16, 9:00 p.m. – Jones Bridge (northbound)
  • Feb. 16, 10:00 p.m. onward – Plaza Lorenzo Ruiz u-turn access (Juan Luna St. to Quintin Paredes St.), Ongpin St. (Juan Luna St. to Quintin Paredes St.), stretch of Quintin Paredes St. (Dasmariñas St. to Escolta St.), Jones Bridge, Juan Luna St. (Dasmariñas St. to Muelle de la Industria), Binondo-Intramuros Bridge, and Plaza Cervantes

Rerouting schemes

The Manila LGU advised motorists to follow the following alternative routes:

  1. From Juan Luna St. to Jones Bridge (southbound): Turn right to Dasmariñas St., left to Muelle de Binondo, left to Muelle de la Industria, then straight to Muelle Banco de Nacional toward Plaza Sta. Cruz.
  2. From P. Burgos Ave. (northbound) to Jones Bridge: Go straight to MacArthur Bridge or Quezon Bridge.
  3. From Riverside Drive to Binondo-Intramuros Bridge (northbound): Proceed straight to A. Soriano Ave., continue to Anda Circle.
  4. From Muelle de la Industria to Binondo-Intramuros Bridge (southbound): Proceed straight to Muelle Banco de Nacional toward Plaza Sta. Cruz.
  5. From San Fernando St. to Plaza Cervantes/Jones Bridge (southbound): Turn right to Dasmariñas St., left to Muelle de Binondo, left to Muelle de la Industria, then straight to Muelle Banco de Nacional toward Plaza Sta. Cruz.

An additional rerouting scheme will be implemented on February 17, 3:00 p.m. onwards from the Manila Post Office to Lucky Chinatown Mall:
Turn right to Jones Bridge → right to Escolta St. → left to Plaza Sta. Cruz → left to Dasmariñas St. → right to Quintin Paredes St. → right to Ongpin St. → left to Sabino Padilla St. → left to Soler St. → left to Reina Regente St. → proceed to Lucky Chinatown Mall.

MMDA and work suspension advisories

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced the suspension of the expanded number coding scheme on February 17 in line with the holiday.

Malacañang has also declared February 17, 2026, as a special non-working day for the celebration of Chinese New Year.

Motorists are advised to plan their trips early and follow traffic enforcers’ instructions to ensure a smooth flow of vehicles during the celebrations.
