MANILA — Malacañang expressed support for consultations on the Department of Education’s proposal to adopt a trimester system for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the shift to a trimester system is still a proposal as DepEd presents its potential advantages.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara, citing findings by the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM II), said the trimester system would allow longer and more flexible instructional periods, reduce teacher workload, and promote higher-quality instruction.
Under the proposed system, the school year would be divided into three academic terms, providing teachers with longer uninterrupted teaching periods and better pacing for lessons.
