MANILA — Colonel Audie Mongao is set to face the General Court Martial following reports that he allegedly withdrew support from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the Philippine Army said Monday.

In a report, it said that at a press briefing, Army chief Lt. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete said Mongao will be charged under Article 63 of the Articles of War, covering “Disrespect toward the President, Vice-President, National Assembly.”

“Tapos na po ‘yung investigation sa kanya sa [Training Command] and he’s already here for General Court Martial. We are already preparing for it. Nagme-meeting pa ‘yung composition. Meron nang pinirmahan sa composition and it will be malapit na,” Nafarrete said.

(The investigation at Training Command is completed and he’s already here for General Court Martial. We are already preparing for it. The composition is still having a meeting. There has been an order on the composition and it will be conducted soon.)

“Siyempre Articles of War ‘yun, disrespect,” he added. (Of course, it’s under the Articles of War, disrespect.)

Mongao has been relieved as commander of the Training Support Group after a statement circulated on social media claiming he had withdrawn support from the President. He is a senior Philippine Army officer with over three decades of service, primarily in training, doctrine development, and field command.

Mongao entered military service in April 1988 and earned his commission through the Philippine Military Academy as part of the Class of 1992, officially assuming active duty in February 1992.
