MANILA – Malacañang said proposals to ban or limit social media use by minors require thorough review, highlighting both the benefits and risks of online platforms for young users.

She added that any proposed measures would be studied to ensure they could effectively help young people.

Several lawmakers have filed bills seeking to regulate minors’ social media access, with proposals setting different minimum age requirements. Experts have stressed that any framework should protect children while respecting their right to freedom of expression, recognizing that developmental needs can vary.

Castro also noted that some foreign countries have already begun implementing restrictions on social media use by minors.
