MANILA — The National Capital Region Police Office announced it will implement a “no permit, no rally” policy for the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution on February 25, as various groups plan separate protest actions.
“Ipatutupad natin ang no permit, no rally since kailangan nating makapag-prepare dahil dalawang malaking pagtitipon ito,” NCRPO spokesperson Police Major Hazel Asilo told Super Radyo dzBB.
(We will implement a ‘no permit, no rally’ policy since we need to prepare for the two major gatherings.)
Several groups are preparing a third iteration of the Trillion Peso March on Wednesday to protest alleged government corruption and political dynasties.
“Ang nabigyan ng permit ay isang grupo mula sa Trillion Peso March Movement,” Asilo said. “Nabigyan sila ng permit para sa February 25, para mag-conduct ng programa sa may White Plains.”
(The group from the Trillion Peso March Movement was granted a permit to conduct their program in White Plains.)
Meanwhile, the Koalisyon Makabayan said on social media it will push through with its protest along EDSA regardless of permit status.
“Tuloy ang laban. Tuloy ang protesta. May permit man o wala,” the group said.
(Translation: The fight continues. On with the protest. With or without a permit.)
Asilo said the NCRPO will deploy 14,000 police personnel to maintain public safety and will monitor any other demonstrations across Metro Manila.
