MANILA — Actress Kylie Padilla laughed off questions about her father, Sen. Robin Padilla, potentially seeking higher office, saying she would “leave the Philippines” if he pursued a political career.
The comments came during a screening of her latest film, The Lotto Winner, when News5 reporter Von Belinario asked her reaction to Robin’s recent statements.
“Aalis na ako ng Pilipinas!” Kylie said, laughing. “I have no reaction, aalis na ako ng Pilipinas.”
When pressed on whether she supported her father’s political ambitions, Kylie reiterated her answer but added that she trusts her father’s judgment.
Kylie later clarified her remarks on Facebook in the early hours of February 25, emphasizing that her comment was personal and not meant as criticism.
“Please do not take my statement and use it against my father. I admire all the good he is doing for our country,” she wrote. “I only made the comment out of my desire to live a calm, peaceful and quiet life. Di ko sinabi yun to insult him or anyone else. I love him and only wish for him to be happy and safe always.”
Robin Padilla recently said he would only run for vice president as the running mate of Vice President Sara Duterte at the command of former President Rodrigo Duterte. He added he would defer to more experienced politicians like Sens. Imee Marcos and Alan Peter Cayetano if they sought the same position.
Kylie is Robin’s daughter with his late ex-wife Liezl Sicangco. Robin and his current wife Mariel Rodriguez have two daughters, while Kylie has two sons with estranged husband Aljur Abrenica.
