MANILA — Malacañang on Friday rejected claims that Sen. Imee Marcos has no presidential security detail because of an alleged dispute with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
“Wala pong kinalaman iyon (It has nothing to do with that),” Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said during a press briefing, when asked if the supposed rift was the reason for the absence of a security detail.
Castro added that the President has never reacted “negatively” toward his sister. “Hindi po ganoon ang Pangulo, kahit nga po kung anu-ano man ang sinasabi laban sa kaniya ng sarili niyang kapatid, hindi po nagri-react ang Pangulo na negatibo sa kaniyang kapatid (The President does not react negatively to his own sibling, even if they say things against him),” she said.
On whether the senator may have declined the Presidential Security Command (PSC) detail, Castro suggested asking Marcos directly.
PSC commander Rear Adm. Andro Val Abayon, during his confirmation hearing before the Commission on Appointments on Wednesday, confirmed that no security personnel have been assigned to the President’s elder sister. Abayon said he ordered an immediate review of PSC’s security plans and close-in deployments after assuming his post three months ago.
Marcos, who attended the hearing as a CA member, did not comment on the matter.
