MANILA — Filipinos in the Middle East have so far remained safe following retaliatory attacks from Iran after airstrikes by Israel and the United States, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said.
“Nakipagpulong na tayo sa ating respective embassies, ambassadors, at labor attachés on the ground patungkol sa sitwasyon ng mga Pilipino on the ground, patungkol sa sitwasyon din ng mga personnel on the ground at sa kabuuang ulat, walang Pilipino na nasaktan or malubhang apektado nitong mga pag-atake,” DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac told Super Radyo dzBB.
(We have already met with our respective embassies, ambassadors, and labor attachés on the ground regarding the situation of Filipinos there, as well as the condition of our personnel. Based on the overall report, no Filipinos were injured or seriously affected by the attacks.)
Cacdac said the Philippine government continues to monitor developments and has contingency plans ready, including providing overseas Filipino workers with basic needs such as food, water, and temporary shelter. Plans for safe repatriation are also in place if necessary.
“Lahat naaabot at mayroon na ring mga humingi ng tulong in terms of whereabouts ng kanilang mga mahal sa buhay at lahat naman ito ay natutugunan kasama na rito ‘yung flight cancellations dito sa sarili nating bansa,” he added.
(We’re able to reach everyone, and some have sought assistance in locating their loved ones. All of these concerns are being properly addressed, including issues related to flight cancellations in the country.)
Cacdac emphasized that there is “no cause for grave alarm yet,” as the situation has not escalated to the point of repatriation.
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) advised Filipinos in the region to follow official advisories from Philippine embassies and local authorities, stay updated on announcements, identify the nearest shelters, be ready for emergency alerts, and avoid areas with potential risks.
For assistance, Filipinos may contact OWWA at (+632) 1348 (international), 1348 (Metro Manila), and (02) 1348 (Regional, mobile number). Additional emergency contacts are listed on OWWA’s Facebook page.
The Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv earlier urged Filipinos to remain indoors and be prepared to seek shelter amid the ongoing military escalation.
