MANLA—Two members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF)-Bungos Faction were apprehended in a joint operation conducted by the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) in Tupi, South Cotabato on Friday, according to WestMinCom.

The operation took place in Barangay Bonao and resulted in the arrest of Nasrullah Omar Onsek, also known as “Kagui Tatang” or “Kagui Onsek,” who authorities identified as a field commander of the BIFF-Bungos Faction and classified as a High-Value Individual (HVI).

Also arrested was Rowaida Omar, alias “Kagui Rowaida,” who was identified as a medical staff member of the same group.

The two suspects are facing charges of multiple attempted murder, destructive arson, and violation of Republic Act 11479, also known as the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.

Seized during the operation were a caliber .45 pistol with a magazine and a hand grenade.

Authorities said the area was secured following the arrest to protect residents. The suspects were turned over to PNP custody for documentation and further legal proceedings.

“This accomplishment demonstrates the strong inter-agency cooperation between the AFP and the PNP. The police led this law enforcement operation, and our troops provided the necessary security and support to ensure its safe and successful execution,” Western Mindanao Command Commander Lieutenant General Donald Gumiran said.
