MANILA – Advocates, industry representatives, transport workers, and government agencies gathered on February 27, 2026, at Harold’s Hotel in Timog Avenue, Diliman for Life With LEVs: Powering the Future of Low-Carbon Mobility, a two-part panel discussion and creative action organized by 350 Pilipinas with media partner The Trip Chainist.
The event focused on the experiences, challenges, and future prospects of Light Electric Vehicles (LEVs) — including pedal-assist bicycles, e-scooters, and e-trikes — emphasizing their role in commuting, livelihoods, last-mile delivery, and integration with renewable energy sources.
Advocates stress inclusive and just transition
Jheny Dabu, Sustainable Transport Campaigner, stressed the need for “concrete, people-centered programs that highlight [LEV] benefits to the public and to the climate.” She highlighted aligning national regulations with local government initiatives, supporting small retailers, and ensuring that the shift to electric mobility remains inclusive.
Fread De Mesa, National Coordinator of 350 Pilipinas, emphasized collaboration across stakeholders. “The transport sector remains one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions in the Philippines, yet we also see solutions already working. Translating climate action into real change requires transforming transport systems toward sustainability, promoting cleaner air, and moving away from dependence on fossil fuels,” he said.
Multi-stakeholder participation
The discussion included commuters, delivery riders, LEV retailers and distributors, civil society organizations, and representatives from government agencies such as the Department of Transportation, Land Transportation Office, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Science and Technology, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, and the Department of Energy. Local government representatives from Quezon City, Mandaluyong, Pasig, Marikina, and San Juan also participated.
The event concluded with a creative action featuring an artwork showcasing diverse modes of transportation, accompanied by a call to sign a commitment toward zero-emission transport — highlighting a vision for a renewable-powered and equitable mobility future.
