MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported a 3.94-percent decrease in crime from December 2025 to January 2026, attributing the decline to intensified police operations and stronger community coordination.

Focus crimes fell from 2,687 cases in December to 2,581 in January 2026. Notable reductions were recorded in murder (319 to 284), physical injury (427 to 299), rape (516 to 400), and motorcycle theft (162 to 149).

Police Region Office 1 (PRO 1) contributed to the positive trend with a 31.03-percent drop in focus crimes. Nationwide, 14 regions achieved lower crime rates, resulting in a nationwide case clearance rate of 93.22 percent and a solution efficiency of 70.24 percent.

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) led both in crime reduction and case resolution.

“These numbers show that mas mababa ang krimen at mas marami ang nalulutas na kaso. Ibig sabihin, gumagana ang ating pinaigting na operasyon at koordinasyon sa komunidad,” said PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr..

PNP statistics showed:

  • Murder cases had an 80.99% clearance rate and a 46.83% solution rate.
  • Physical injury cases recorded a 95.99% clearance rate and 79.26% solution rate.
  • Rape investigations had a 94.00% clearance rate with 24 pending cases.
  • Theft cases logged a 97.13% clearance rate and an 86.12% solution rate.
  • Seven kidnapping cases were solved, achieving an 85.71% efficiency rate.
  • Cybercrime cases recorded a 66.55% clearance rate and 55.75% solution rate as authorities continue to strengthen digital security measures.

The PNP emphasized that sustained operations, community collaboration, and enhanced investigative efforts are key to maintaining public safety and ensuring justice nationwide.
