MANILA—Fans in the Philippines and across Southeast Asia expressed excitement after the first-look trailer for “Pokémon Winds” and “Pokémon Waves” was released.
The Pokémon Company unveiled a three-minute preview introducing the setting of the upcoming titles — a tropical region featuring dense forests, sandy shores, waterfalls, and terraced landscapes.
Some Filipino viewers said parts of the scenery resemble the Banaue Rice Terraces, while others online noted similarities to well-known natural and coastal views in Indonesia and Malaysia.
The company has not confirmed any specific real-world inspiration for the new region. Despite this, fans from Southeast Asia shared their enthusiasm over what they described as visual parallels to their home countries.
Based on information published on the company’s website, the games are being developed by Game Freak exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2.
The titles will feature an open-world environment spanning windswept islands and an expansive ocean. Pokémon are described as living in balance with the region’s rich surroundings, forming distinct ecosystems.
Players will partner with various Pokémon as they navigate obstacles during their journey, including natural forces that may hinder progress. The main character’s outfit will vary depending on the version selected.
At the start of the adventure, trainers can choose from three first partner Pokémon: Browt, a Grass-type Bean Chick Pokémon; Pombon, a Fire-type Puppy Pokémon; and Gecqua, a Water-type Gecko Pokémon.
The trailer also revealed two Pikachu variants with new appearances, Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu, although further information about their roles has yet to be announced.
“Pokémon Winds” and “Pokémon Waves” are scheduled for a worldwide simultaneous release in 2027.
