MANILA — Disney and Pixar have released the first trailer for Toy Story 5, showing Woody, Buzz, and the gang facing a new kind of challenge—technology.
The preview introduces Lilypad, a tablet device that disrupts the toys’ role in Bonnie’s life. Pixar said the story focuses on how the toys respond as their purpose is threatened by new competition.
“The toys are back and this time, Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs are challenged when they come face-to-face with Lilypad… Will playtime ever be the same?” the studio said in the trailer description.
The trailer features scenes of the toys banding together to protect their place in Bonnie’s world, with Buzz reaffirming their mission: “Our mission on this planet is to make a child happy.”
Returning cast members include Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack, alongside newcomers Greta Lee, Conan O’Brien, and Tony Hale.
Director Andrew Stanton said the film examines how longtime characters navigate a tech-driven world, describing the story as both “hilarious and poignant.”
Toy Story 5 is set to premiere in theaters on June 19.
