MANILA – The Quezon City government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening local programs as it welcomed the national government’s PHP58-billion allocation for the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) this year, the highest in history.
In a statement Friday, the city said the increased fund will help expand programs and services while ensuring transparency and accountability in its use.
“Like the President, the city government believes devolving these funds to local governments is a good step to ensure swift and effective implementation of programs such as essential infrastructure, medical programs, disaster preparedness, and more,” the statement read.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. approved the direct release of PHP57.87 billion during the launch of the “Sa Bagong Pilipinas, Bawat Bayan Makikinabang” program on Feb. 23 at Malacañang, attended by governors and mayors nationwide.
The LGSF will fund priority initiatives such as a rice assistance program benefiting over five million families, health facility upgrades, disaster preparedness projects, and critical infrastructure, including farm-to-market roads, electrification, and water supply systems.
Mayor Joy Belmonte, along with fellow convenors of Mayors for Good Governance, emphasized the vital role of local governments in delivering essential services.
“The city government ensures that fund management will be orderly and honest. Every centavo will benefit the public,” the statement added.
