MANILA — Veteran actress Hilda Koronel made a strong return to the screen as the film “Sisa” earned the Best Screenplay award at the Fantasporto International Film Festival.

Director Jun Robles Lana announced the recognition for the movie, which marks Koronel’s comeback to show business after a 14-year hiatus.

“It’s an honor for our team to see this story recognized on an international stage, but the most meaningful part of the journey is bringing this win back home,” Lana wrote on social media.

Set during the closing years of the Philippine-American War, “Sisa” tells the story of a woman who descends into madness after witnessing a violent massacre.

The film was also included in the lineup of last year’s Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, where Lana previously screened his 2022 movie About Us But Not About Us.

“Sisa” is likewise among the featured films at this year’s QCinema International Film Festival and is currently showing in theaters across the Philippines.
