MANILA — Sen. Imee Marcos has filed Senate Resolution No. 340 calling for an investigation into the alleged coordination between government agencies and the International Criminal Court (ICC) in connection with the arrest of former president Rodrigo Roa Duterte last year.
The resolution seeks to examine the circumstances surrounding Duterte’s arrest on March 11, which Marcos described as a possible violation of the rights of a Filipino citizen.
Marcos said the inquiry aims to determine whether certain government agencies cooperated with the ICC despite the Philippines’ withdrawal from the Rome Statute in 2019.
The senator said clarifying the issue is necessary to restore public trust in the country’s justice system and to ensure that similar incidents do not undermine national sovereignty.
