MANILA — Malacañang said that the Philippines’ potential membership in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) would serve not only the country’s interests but also those of other nations.

“Ang pagiging miyembro at mabigyan ng non-permanent seat sa UN Security Council ay hindi ibig sabihin na sariling interes lang ng Pilipinas ang ipaglalaban o madidinig na boses mula sa Pilipinas,” said Claire Castro, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer, in a media briefing in New York.

Castro added that the Philippines’ role on the council would focus on promoting global peace, safety, and security, while allowing discussions on national security concerns.

The Philippines is vying for a non-permanent seat on the UNSC for the 2027–2028 term, with elections set for June 3, 2026.

The UNSC, as the principal UN body tasked with maintaining international peace and security, also oversees situations requiring peacekeeping operations worldwide.
