MANILA — The Department of Transportation has ordered a reduction in Passenger Service Charges and airport navigation fees in airports operated by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines to help airlines cope with rising fuel costs.

In a statement, the DOTr said the move comes in response to the sharp increase in jet fuel prices linked to tensions in the Middle East. According to the agency, jet fuel prices rose from $90.87 per barrel in February to $188.2 per barrel in March.

“Dahil dito, inatasan na ni Transportation Secretary Banoy Lopez ang CAAP na bawasan ang Passenger Service Charges at airport navigation charges sa lahat ng CAAP-operated airports bilang bahagi ng mga hakbang para makatulong na mapababa ang operating costs ng mga airline,” the DOTr said.

The order was issued by Transportation Secretary Banoy Lopez as part of government efforts to reduce airline operating costs.

The CAAP currently operates around 30 airports nationwide, including Laoag International Airport, Zamboanga International Airport, and Davao International Airport.

The development comes as rising fuel prices continue to affect consumers across the country, with analysts warning of potential increases in inflation and concerns over power supply.
