MANILA — Philip Acop of the National Unity Party was proclaimed winner of the special election for the second congressional district of Antipolo City held on Saturday.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) officially proclaimed Acop following the manual canvassing of votes at the Ynares Center early Sunday.

Acop received 60,051 votes, defeating his closest rival, Reden Llama, who garnered 12,054 votes. Other candidates included Paulo Tapales with 10,080 votes, Nathaniel Lobigas (754), Dandin Infante (412), and Maria Trinidad Cafirma (199).

Acop, a former Antipolo councilor, will replace his father, Romeo Acop, who passed away on Dec. 20, 2025.

“Despite the very short period given to us by law, the Comelec was able to conduct the Antipolo 2nd Congressional District Special Election. We do not have a budget for that,” said George Garcia.

Comelec data showed that only 83,550 registered voters participated in the special election, representing 33 percent of the 252,793 total registered voters in the district.

Acop is set to take his oath of office on Monday, which will be administered by Jun Ynares.
