MANILA — The Commission on Elections assured the public that preparations for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on November 2 are ongoing, despite rumors of a possible postponement.

Comelec Chairperson George Garcia said he had received reports suggesting the village and youth polls might be delayed again due to the current crisis.

“We have heard things like that (BSKE postponement) because of the current crisis,” Garcia said in an interview. “But Comelec cannot stop preparing just because of the buzz or news. We still need to prepare.”

The elections were originally scheduled for December 1, 2025, but were moved to November 2, 2026.

Republic Act No. 12232 sets the next BSKE on the first Monday of November and establishes a four-year term for Barangay and SK officials. The last BSKE was held on October 30, 2023.
