MANILA — Filipino-American singer Olivia Rodrigo has hinted at her upcoming third album while appearing in a cooking segment for Vogue, where she prepared a cocktail and a Filipino dish.
In the magazine’s “Now Serving” video series, Rodrigo made a Paloma cocktail with a twist of calamansi before cooking chicken lumpia, sharing details about her routine both on tour and during her downtime.
She demonstrated her version of lumpia using ground chicken, wrappers, oil, onions, carrots, garlic powder, pepper, salt, parsley, sesame oil, and eggs. Instead of chopping ingredients by hand, she used a food processor, joking that she wanted to avoid going viral like another celebrity.
Describing the Filipino dish, Rodrigo said: “They’re really delicious, savory, and kind of like greasy in the best way. It just feels like ‘feel good’ food.”
She recalled first encountering lumpia through her grandmother, who used to prepare triangle-shaped versions for their family during Thanksgiving. For the video, however, Rodrigo opted to make the traditional rolled version, noting that she associates the triangular kind with the holiday.
While cooking, the singer briefly spoke about her forthcoming album, describing it as diverse in sound and theme.
“I really wanted to figure out a way to kind of write about joy in this album,” Olivia said, admitting her first two releases were angsty and heartbroken. “Just as a creative endeavor, and also ’cause I was experiencing a lot of joy in my life — I wanted to figure out how to inject that into the songs I was making.”
Rodrigo continued preparing the dish, comparing herself to celebrity chef Rachael Ray, while discussing her creative process and pre- and post-show routines.
She noted that while pork or beef are commonly used for lumpia, she chose chicken, describing herself as a “chicken girl.” After rolling and frying the lumpia until golden brown, Rodrigo paired the dish with her Paloma and encouraged viewers to try it at home.
Rodrigo’s sophomore album, Guts, was released in 2023 and later supported by a global tour, which included her first performance in the Philippines in October 2025.
The Philippine Arena concert sold tickets priced at P1,500, with proceeds benefiting Jhpiego Philippines to support women and girls in underserved and conflict-affected communities.
“Guts” featured tracks such as Vampire, Bad Idea Right?, and Get Him Back!, adding to her earlier hits including Drivers License, Deja Vu, Happier, and Good 4 U.
