MANILA – The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) encouraged women to take control of their finances, releasing a three-step guide aimed at helping them build financial security as part of National Women’s Month.

In a statement, the state deposit insurer highlighted the importance of confidence and self-reliance in managing personal finances.

“You have all the equipment. You just need to read the manual.”

The PDIC said the message reflects how women already possess the capability to shape their financial future despite existing societal norms and challenges.

The agency outlined three key steps to help women strengthen their financial standing, starting with opening a bank account to establish a secure financial foundation. It stressed that keeping money in banks is safer than storing cash at home.

The second step focuses on protecting savings by keeping personal banking information confidential and staying alert against scams.

“Now that you have a savings account, protect it by keeping passwords, PINs, and other bank records strictly confidential. Be cautious of phishing attempts and text scams. When in doubt, do not click that link.”

For the third step, the PDIC encouraged developing consistent saving habits, noting that even small but regular deposits can help individuals reach their financial goals over time.

The agency also reminded depositors that bank savings are insured.

“As the state deposit insurer, the PDIC protects deposits in banks up to the maximum deposit insurance coverage of P1 million per depositor, per bank.”

Alongside its financial literacy push, the PDIC said it continues to support gender equality through various programs in partnership with the Philippine Commission on Women. These include activities on health and wellness, financial rights, gender sensitivity, and discussions on the Safe Spaces Act.

The PDIC underscored that improving financial awareness is key to narrowing the gender financial gap and ensuring long-term stability for women.
